Acomplia Fears

According to a news report it would appear Thousands upon thousands of UK patients deemed to be over weight have been taken a weight loss pill called Acomplia also called rimonabant, have doubled their risk of psychiatric problems.

Acomplia went on sale here in the UK in 2006. However, It would appear last year although the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellance only issued their approval for this pill in June this year, doctors were advised not to give Acomplia to patients with a history of depression, suicidal thoughts, or on antidepressants.

Yesterday (thursday 23/10/08) the EMEA has now recommended suspending the drug's licence. Doctors have been told not to issue prescriptions.

If you are taking this once a day pill you are advised to see your doctor.

Last month US safety officials voted to ban the pill amid concerns that the drug heightened the risk of depression and suicide.
